Robert Richardson Coker papers, 1888, 1960-1987, (bulk 1972-1987)

The papers include correspondence, a drawing, memos, minutes, newspaper clippings and reports; all related to Clemson University as well as a 1888 typescript copy of Thomas Green Clemson's will. They document his service as a life trustee on the Clemson Board, 1960-1987. During this period, Clemson became a University, integrated, and doubled it's enrollment. His expertise as a businessman and agriculturalist can be found in the papers related to the construction of the new agricultural building, Poole Agricultural Building; the South Carolina Foundation Seed Association; and the Clemson Extension Services and Experiment Stations. Coker served during the period when Clemson experienced a number of controversies connected with the Athletic Department and there is documentation about them. As a member of the Board of Trustees, he was in communications with other Board members including Louis Batson, Edgar Brown, Paul McAlister and James Self as well as administrators such as Bill Atchley, Hugh Clausen, Robert C. Edwards and Joseph McDevitt.
